My Grandmother's Obituary...


Marguerite Alice Hill, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died unexpectedly Wednesday, December 6th, 2006 at the age of 83 in Olympia, Washington.

Marguerite was born February 23, 1923, in Bucoda, Washington, on the banks of the Skookumchuck River, to Anton and Florence Iverson. She spent her youth living at Mutual Camp, and the Bucoda and Tenino area where her parents built and operated Iverson’s Grocery, which still stands today.

She attended the one-room Colvin School on Frost Prarie, Junior High and High School in Tenino, graduating from Centralia High School in 1941. She then received her degree from Metropolitan Business College in Seattle.

Mom joined the US Navy as a WAVE in May of 1943 and served as a Yeoman and Chief Petty Officer at Treasure Island, California for the duration of World War II before being discharged in August of 1946.

She met Erv Hill on a blind date in 1947 and was married 6 months later at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. Mom and Dad bought Hill’s Westside Texaco in 1950 and operated it until 1986.

Mom worked for the Washington State Employment Security Department, and retired from the Washington State Department of Revenue.

She joined the Trinity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star in 1949, was a past Worthy Matron and active in the order until the end of her life. She was also a member of Zora Temple, Daughters of the Nile, and was queen of Zora Temple in 2001.

Mom is survived by her beloved sister, Charlotte O’Keefe and her husband Jack, in Sun City AZ, son David Hill and his wife Barbara in Seattle, son Ron Hill and his wife Grace in Olympia, son Jimmy Hill in Seattle, daughter Debra Pfeifer in Yelm, and the O’Keefe kids.

Mom has 10 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

An Innurnment ceremony will be held at 10:00 Friday December 15, 2006, at Olympic Memorial Gardens in Tumwater, followed by an 11:00 memorial service at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Olympia. Memorials in her name can be made to Eastern Star Scholarship Fund % Trinity Chapter, PO Box 612, Tenino WA 98589, or The Shriners Childrens Hospital in Seattle.

(What a bad friend I AM), I haven't gotten to your blog, and I've meant to for like a month! I'm so sorry.
Just know, that I've been praying for you and your family.
I'm sure if you're anything like your grandma, she was quite a woman!! :)
